"So, here’s my story:

I’ve been in the tool and mold industry for about 42 years now, mostly working for big mold places. I’ve been a leader and an owner. Of all these places there were only about three places I’ve worked for where the owners actually cared about the people and knew they had to invest in us to grow their companies.

So as the years went by, the company I worked for stopped investing in their people, and I stopped growing. I knew I needed fresh air. A couple of friends had come to me, telling me about Circle 5. Now I knew about Circle 5, I personally know one of the founders. I worked with him for about ten years, he was the best foreman I’ve worked for. When I got my interview, I was thrown a surprise: I found out that only one of the five original founders was still an owner with a partner. I wasn’t exactly comfortable with this, and Circle 5 was a fair distance from me. But like I said this place was different. In my interview, well they wanted to know about me, not about what I can do with machines, they heard about what I could do with machines, but ME. My brain was like “what just happened?”

Well, I agreed to come and work for Circle 5 and a lot has happened since I started here! It’s all about growth and the people, you have full support here like I’ve never seen before. Now, I get up every day and I’m happy for that drive to work.

When I started, I wanted to do things differently. Most shops put their apprentices on a slow learning pace. My group was young and had little experience. I chose to fast-track them. I wanted to show them everything: how all the machines work, how to program on the computers. (Usually, programming is taught at the end, but I did this first.) In the past, I would have gotten pushback from management. At Circle 5 I was free to teach as I wanted to.

I’ve shown them the basics, and then I watch them and let them try things their way. I explain to them why it will or won’t work, but I still allow them to try it their way so they can see what will happen. This gets them thinking and acting more like seasoned operators. In less than a year each one can work with a lot less supervision. One thing I’ve noticed is we are all problem-solving and building off of each other. This makes us a lot stronger as a group. This way we all win together. "

"I was hired on May 19th, 2015, the day after the Victoria Day long weekend. I started in design doing feasibility on parts, and slowly moved on to design with a lot of help from so many people. The rest is history. I think the people make Circle 5 what it is. They are the reason I like working here.

The job itself has evolved over the years. Most recently I have been assigned to purchasing for design and helping the shop with issues that may come up. I enjoy this new position as it entails working closely with more people inside and outside the company, with added responsibilities.

Another reason I enjoy working at Circle 5 is that they not only try to promote from within first but are willing to make new positions to keep people, rather than lay people off. There are always good opportunities for advancement at Circle 5.

Circle 5 is also quoting and receiving more non-automotive programs, which brings new challenges to departments throughout the company. This is something I think can only better the company overall.

I don’t have any funny anecdotes, well, none that I can write here. There have been many fun times that I’ve had at the social outings that Circle 5 has had over the years. From the company luncheons and BBQ to the Christmas parties and golf outings, and most recently the town hall which included learning about other departments. "
